Green Light for Northampton Town Council

A new town council for Northampton will be created on 1 April 2020 following an historic decision this evening by Northampton Borough Council (NBC).

The new council, which is set to be the largest community-level council in England, will have its first election of councillors on 7 May 2020. Its inaugural meeting will take place shortly thereafter.

Northamptonshire to go unitary in 2021

Northants CALC welcomes the announcement today by the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, The Rt Hon James Brokenshire MP, that two new unitary councils will be created in Northamptonshire.

County Council Election Results

County Council Election Results

Yesterday's votes are all counted and the Conservatives have increased their control of Northamptonshire County Council, winning 43 of the 57 seats and wiping out UKIP in the process.

The final results were (2013 result in brackets): CON 43 (36), LAB 12 (11), LIB DEM 2 (6), IND 0 (1), UKIP 0 (3).

New Man At The Top

The Rt Hon Greg Clark has been appointed as Secretary of State for the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) in place of Eric Pickles.

Greg Clark is the Conservative MP for Royal Tunbridge Wells and has had involvement in housing, the National Planning Policy Framework and devolution.

Eric Pickles no longer has a cabinet portfolio.
