Empowering Parish and Town Councils in Northamptonshire

Conference Shines A Light

Conference Shines A Light

The Northants CALC Street Lighting Conference & Exhibition shone a light on the whole world of lighting, from the chemistry used in bulb manufacture, through to the installation and maintenance of luminaires.

The event, held on 4 March 2019 at the Saxon Hall in Raunds, brought together leading lights from the industry, including Iain Macrae from the Lighting Industry Association, Stewart Muir from the Energy Saving Trust and Nia Hodnett and Ed Clark from Salix Finance. Fifty five delegates from forty parish and town councils booked on the event and learnt everything from how different wavelengths create different lighting effects, to developments in LED technology, to how to go about funding a street light project.

The exhibition area included designers, manufacturers, engineers and installers as well as representatives from Northamptonshire County Council and Balfour Beatty on the regulation of street works.

The feedback received included:

"Great session yesterday - got an enormous amount from it. Thank you." Warmington Parish Council

"I just wanted to say a quick word of thanks to you and the staff at NCALC for today's workshop on Street Lighting. It was a very useful day, from which we benefited a lot. There is much more to the subject than I had appreciated!" Cold Higham Parish Council

The event was intended to be a one-off, but it may well be repeated in 2 - 3 years for councils looking at projects then.
