Empowering Parish and Town Councils in Northamptonshire

Appointment of Deputy Chief Executive

Northants CALC has appointed Dr Lesley Sambrook Smith as Deputy Chief Executive Officer. Lesley has been Clerk to Syresham Parish Council in South Northamptonshire since 2010 and before that had a career in product engineering and quality control. Lesley has a wealth of project management and organisational development skills and will be a real asset to Northants CALC as it continues to grow to meet the needs of member councils.

Lesley, who beat a very strong field of candidates, starts in June and will be working 32 hours per week. As Deputy Chief Executive Lesley will lead on the development of the advice service dealing with enquiries from member parish and town councils and will assist with the growth and development of the Association, particularly on the creation of new parish councils in the currently unparished areas of Kettering, Northampton, Corby and Wellingborough.

It's an exciting time for Northants CALC and this appointment marks a significant new chapter in the Association's development. It takes the staff complement from 2.2 Full Time Equivalents to 3.1, so we're still small but now have two members of staff that can answer technical enquiries. The staff team will continue to be backed up by the Member Enquiry Service (MES), which is our e-mail based service for very straightforward and generic enquiries and is operated on a rota system by four CiLCA qualified clerks working on a voluntary basis.

The Association is well-placed to meet the ever-increasing needs of parish and town councils in terms of advice and technical guidance, whilst now having the resources to develop ways of working smarter as well as harder.
