NALC's Local Council Award Scheme National Accreditation Panel Pilot

April 2020 Update
Whilst we appreciate the national panel for the Local Council Award Scheme will not be of high priority presently, we wanted to provide clarity on the next steps for the national panel.

NALC had initially planned that nationally they would consider three times a year. Application windows would normally be January, May and September of each year.

However with respect to this year, they are intending to delay assessing applications until September 2020.

In the meantime, if there are any applications would you would like to submit to the national panel, please send them to Should there be a high demand, they may consider looking at applications on an ad hoc basis over the next few months.

January 2020 Update
The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) has successfully piloted a national panel for its Local Council Award Scheme (LCAS).

The pilot began in August 2019, which received four applications with all councils accredited the following:

  • Dunham on Trent with Ragnall, Darlton and Fledborough Parish Council — Foundation Award
  • Brixton Parish Council — Quality Award
  • Stanton Parish Council — Quality Award
  • Wokingham Without Parish Council — Foundation Award

February will officially mark the commencement of the second pilot. Due to the high volume of applications received NALC are not considering any further applications for phase two of the pilot. Northants CALC have been lucky enough to have an application from one of our parish councils that will be processed in phase two of the pilot, so watch this space!

NALC are seeking interested Clerks, Councillors, individuals with local council experience and County Officers to join the panel pool. If you're interested in becoming a panel member please email for details of the requirements for panel members. The deadline for expressions of interest to be sent to NALC is by Monday 17th February 2020.

Phase three of pilot is due to commence in May with a deadline for submissions on Friday 1 May 2020. Accreditation fees will be applicable in May and further information will be provided in due course.

More updates regarding the National Accreditation Pilot will follow as they come. In the meantime, if you would like more information about the Local Council Award Scheme please follow this link.
